Conjunctiva-Sparing Posterior Ptosis Surgery
Functional & Aesthetic Benefits
Ptosis, or drooping of the upper eyelid, can affect both vision and facial appearance. Dr. Ronald Mancini helped develop a conjunctiva-sparing posterior approach to ptosis surgery, designed to correct eyelid drooping while preserving key tissues inside the eyelid.
Traditional ptosis repair techniques often involve removing or altering the conjunctiva. This innovative method avoids conjunctival disruption while still allowing precise adjustment of the eyelid-lifting muscle.
Preserving the conjunctiva may reduce surgical trauma, improve healing, and maintain the natural structure of the eyelid.
The technique was published in:
Vrcek I, Hogan RN, Rosen J, Mancini R. (2016) Conjunctiva-Sparing Posterior Ptosis Surgery.
It was further advanced with a sutureless version in 2023.
Who Should Consider Ptosis Surgery?
Patients who experience drooping upper eyelids, vision obstruction, eyelid fatigue, or asymmetry may benefit from ptosis repair surgery. A consultation with Dr. Mancini can determine the most effective surgical approach based on eyelid anatomy and functional needs.
