Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before your journey begins.
What is an oculoplastic surgeon?
An oculoplastic surgeon is an ophthalmologist (a microsurgeon who operates on the eye itself) who’s had extra fellowship training to specialize in plastic and reconstructive surgery around the eye. This area may be small in size, but our training is comprehensive and rigorous. We cover everything from orbital fracture repairs caused by trauma to cosmetic procedures. There aren’t many oculoplastic specialists; our professional organization, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, has fewer than 600 members worldwide.

Post-Op Recovery
Your post-op journey begins in the recovery room with a combination of blue light therapy (anti-bacterial) and red and infrared light therapy (to help with bruising and skin tightening). You will then have applied Dr. Mancini’s patented Eyemask MD, a cooling eye mask infused with the healing properties of Manuka honey (sourced from the Manuka tree in New Zealand and created by bees that pollinate the native leptospermum scoparium bush). You will be provided a supply to take home with you for continued healing over the crucial first 3 days.
Dr. Mancini, in collaboration with a group of scientists, spent 6 years perfecting a superior post-surgical treatment that is available to his patients. The product underwent rigorous safety and efficacy testing and is now available as Eyemask MD
